- Good quality reconstituted water was used. The water used in the test had hardness 86 mg, expressed as Ca content per liter (acceptance criteria 10< Ca < 250 mg), and pH7.71 (acceptance criteria 6 < pH <8.5). The reagents used for the preparation of reconstituted water were of analytical grade and the deionized water had a conductivity <=10 µS/cm.

- As test system the fish species Brachydanio rerio was employed in the assay, as described by the guideline OECD 203:1992‘. The animals had a maximal length of 2.0 cm+-1.0 cm at the beginning of the test. they were in good health and free from any apparent malformation, as indicated in the veterinary Certificate.
