Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Irrigate with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes

holding the eyelids apart. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove any contaminated clothing. Wash repeatedly with soap

and water for 15 minutes. If irritation occurs seek medical

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water. Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: FR-1034 is not combustible. Extinguishing agents appropriate

to the surrounding enviroment should be used. Water should

be used to cool containers.

Product arising from burning: At elevated temperatures products of combustion may contain

carbon oxides, bromine and hydrogen bromide gas.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing, eye/face protection and a

self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus are

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing (see 2.3.1). Sweep up any

spilled material and transfer to sealed waste containers.

Avoid the generation of dust. Wash the affected area with

water. Spilled material and residues should be disposed of

by incineration.

Handling and storage

Handling: Handling procedures should be designed to minimise dust

generation, and local exhaust ventilation should be used to

ensure atmospheric levels are below 10 mg/m3. Protective

clothing (including overshoes or other footwear protection)

should be worn together with safety goggles, gloves and a

dust respirator (eg North type with RP-12 cartridges). Local

washing and shower facilities should be provided.

Storage: Store in sealed containers in a dry, cool and well

ventilated area away from strong alkalis.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The substance decomposes to give bromine/bromide in the

precence of strong alkalis.

Chemical reaction with water: None reported.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recycling of treated polypropylene polymers is a practical

possibility (eg using injection moulding).

Recovery of FR-1034 from polymers is not practically

possible. It may be reused from spillages if uncontaminated.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Treatment with strong alkali is possible. However, this

would generate harmful by-products (bromine/bromide).

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method. The substance should be mixed with a

combustible solvent and burnt at a facility equipped with

both an afterburner and gas scrubbers to remove hydrogen

bromide and bromine.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse of articles may be possible.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable, the substance will only be present in an

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Articles containing the substance may be disposed of at a

landfill site.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Articles may be incinerated at a suitable facility equipped

for waste gas treatment.
