Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No studies investigating the toxicity of Diisooctyl adipate (CAS 1330-86-5) to algae are available. Therefore, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally related category members Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) and Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) was conducted. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the category justification section 13.In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance within this category was used.

The test with Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) was conducted according to OECD 201 using Pseudokirchneriella subcapita as test organism (MOE, 2000). A mixture of DMF and HCO-40 was used as vehicle at a concentration of 100 mg/L. Only one test concentration was applied (50 mg/L nominal, 46 mg/L measured). No adverse effects were observed. Therefore, the EC50 (72h) is assessed as > 50 mg/L (nominal) and > 46 mg/L (measured).

The test with Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) was conducted under static conditions similar to OECD 211 using Desmodesmus subspicatus as test organism (BASF, 1990).Cremophor RH 40 was used as vehicle at a concentration of 100 mg/L. Test concentrations of 0.78, 1.56, 3.13, 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, 100 mg/L were applied. The EC50/EC10 (72h) was calculated as > 100/72 mg/L (nominal), based on growth rate.

Due to structural and property similarities to the analogue substances Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) and Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) these results are also applicable to read across to Diisooctyl adipate (CAS 1330-86-5).
