Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

From the water surface, the hydrolysis product sec-butanol will not evaporate into the atmosphere.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A high Henry's Law Constant (HLC) of 512 Pa m³/mol was estimated for sec-butyl chloroformate (BASF SE, 2008). However, it is rapidly hydrolysed to sec-butanol, CO2 and HCl. The measured HLC for sec-butanol of 0.92 Pa m³/mol indicates slow volatilization from surface waters (OECD, 2000).
