Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI 2263, sheet1
Deviations:
not specified
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The substance is deposited on a heated ceramic plate forming a rectangular pile of 4 by 2 cm. The sample is ignited at the smaller base by a glowing platinum wire or a small flame. Meltable products can be mixed with Kieselgur. The combustibility of the product is rated from 1 (=no ignition) to 6 (=very rapid combustion with flame propargation). From 1 - 3 no spreading of fire is observed.
In case the combustibility index is >3 the burning rate is tested by measuring the velocity of a combustion zone propargating along an unbroken strip or a powder train about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low hat-conducting base plate
GLP compliance:
no

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
other: not readily flammable
Conclusions:
The burning behaviour of the test item was determined according to VDI 2263. At room temperature, there was a localized combustion with practically no spreading observed. This mean the combustibility index is 3. With this result no determination of the burning velocity has to be determined.
Performing this test at 100°C a burning with flame can be observed (CI=5)
