Studies were performed to assess the acute toxicity to aquatic organisms of the substance under static conditions. Fish and daphnids were exposed to a limit test concentration dissolved in dilution water and algae were exposed to a range of concentrations dissolved in dilution water. To achieve the desired test concentrations, stock solutions were prepared. For it, an amount of the substance was dissolved in deionized water, treated with an ultra turrax at 8000 rpm for 60 sec and finally stirred with a magnetic stirrer during 24 hours.
Since the substance hydrolyses in water, it is assumed that also hydrolysis products were generated during test media preparation and thus, the observed effects on ecotoxicity relate to both the parent substance and its hydrolysis products.
All results are expressed in terms of nominal concentrations as no analytical monitoring was performed.
Short-term toxicity to fish
In a static limit test system a 96h-LC0 of ≥ 100 mg/L was determined on Danio rerio. As a consequence it can be concluded that the 96h-LC50 is > 100 mg/L. The test was conducted according to the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Method C.1 'Acute toxicity for Fish' (2008) which is in most parts equivalent to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203 'Fish, Acute Toxicity Test' (1992).
Short-term toxicity to Daphnia
Toxicity towards Daphnia magna was investigated in a static limit test in accordance with the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Method C.2 'Acute toxicity for Daphnia' which is equivalent to OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 202. Acute Immobilisation Test' (adopted April 13, 2004). No toxic effect was observed and a 48h-EC50 of >100 mg/L was received.
Toxicity to aquatic algae
The acute toxicity of the substance to alga (Desmodesmus subspicatus) was tested according to the EU Method C.2 (Acute Toxicity for Daphnia), which is equivalent to OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 201. After 72 hours an EC50 of > 100 mg/L, a NOEC of 25 mg/L and a LOEC of 50 mg/L.
Toxicity to microorganisms
To assess the toxicity of the substance to microorganisms a study was conducted according to the EU Method C.11 (Biodegradation: Activated Sludge Respiration Inhibition Test) which is equivalent to OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No.201. The substance showed no respiration inhibition of activated sludge at a concentration of 1000 mg/L. The EC50 is higher than 1000 mg/L. The effect value relates to nominal concentration, since no analytical monitoring was performed.
All toxicity studies mentioned above are classified as acceptable and satisfy the guideline requirements for the toxicity studies on acute toxicity to aquatic organisms.
