Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
Picramic Acid was evaluated in 144 h LC, and EC, studies using American oysters (C. virginica). The nominal test concentrations of Picramic Acid were 0, 15, 25, 35, and 75 mg/L.
Test solutions were renewed every 24 h.
Both mortality and the amount of shell deposition were used to measure toxicity.
The duration of the study, 144 h, was adequate for sufficient shell deposition. At the end of 144 h, LC, no growth EC, and shell deposition EC,, were calculated

Reference substance name:
2-amino-4,6-dinitrophenol
EC Number:
202-544-6
EC Name:
2-amino-4,6-dinitrophenol
Cas Number:
96-91-3

IUPAC Name:
2-amino-4,6-dinitrophenol
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Picramic acid (lot number 38C-0117) was purchased from the Sigma Chemical Company (St. Louis, Missouri),

Sampling and analysis

Details on sampling:
One replicate of 2 oysters was tested at each concentation because sufficient dissolved oxygen (>8.0 mg/L) was available due to the air-lift system. Test solutions were renewed every 24 h.
