Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Medium hardness water contains typically 100 mg/l carbonate; a limiting factor to health of auatic organisms will be raised pH at extremely high concentrations and imbalance of micro-nutrients and other metals.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance dissociates in water producing sodium, carbonate and bicarbonate ions. All of them originally exist in nature, and their concentrations in surface water are dependent on various factors, such as geological parameters, weathering and human activities. Therefore, there is a continuous source of such ions into the environment and they all have been measured extensively in aquatic ecosystems.
