Conclusion on classification

Pentadecanol, branched and linear is readily biodegradable and long term toxicity data with aquatic invertebrates indicate that the NOEC is less than 0.01 mg/l. The 21-d chronic NOEC value for pentadecan-1-ol effects on reproduction of Daphnia magna was found to be 7.8 µg/L (based on mean measured concentration from both fresh and old test media). This NOEC value of 7.8 µg/L (0.0078 mg/L) for pentadecan-1-ol is slightly below the 10 µg/L (0.01 mg/L) value triggering a requirement for classification and labelling as Aquatic Chronic Hazard Category 1 (H410) classification in line with the criteria set out in part 4 of Annex 1 of the CLP regulation, as amended by Commission Regulation (EU) No 286/2011 of 10 March 2011. Therefore, the substance is classified as Chronic Category 1 for the environment in the EU according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
