Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Inherently biodegradable according to OECD criteria: 96% after 30 days based on DOC removal (OECD 303 A).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no reliable biodegradation tests are available for 16-18 and C18–unsatd. AS Na (CAS 1394155-71-5), in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to another structurally related category member was conducted. Read-across data available for C16-18AS Na (CAS 68955-20-4) were used.

One reliable non-GLP simulation test with C16-18As Na (CAS 68955-20-4) according to OECD 303 A guideline is available (Richterich 2001). Adapted activated sludge from municipal sewage treatment plant was used as inoculum and the initial concentration of the test substance was 20 mg/L as DOC. The inoculum was adapted to synthetic waste water for one week. Biodegradation measured as DOC removal reached 96% after 30 days.

Due to structural and property similarities with the tested category member, it can be concluded that 16-18 and C18–unsatd. AS Na (CAS 1394155-71-5) is inherently biodegradable.
