Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

The substance is not a flammable liquid.

Flash point: 225 °C (DIN EN ISO 3679 rapid equilibrium closed-cup method: see endpoint 4.11).

It was concluded that the substance has no pyrophoric properties and is not highly flammable in contact with water for the following reasons:

- the substance lacks structural alerts for these properties,

- experience in handling showed that the substance does not ignite spontaneously when coming into contact with air at normal temperatures,

- the substance is well soluble in water and experience in handling showed that the substance does not react with water followed by evolving flammable gases.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Because the flash point of the substance is > 60°C (i.e. 225°C), classification as a flammable liquid according to the CLP Regulations (EC) No 1272/2008 is not necessary.

Based on the absence of structural alerts and based on experience in handling, the substance does not have to be classified as a pyrophoric liquid or as a substance which in contact with water emit flammable gases under the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.

Substances or mixtures with a low melting point (< 160°C) should not be considered for classification as a self-heating substance since the melting process is endothermic and the substance-air surface is drastically reduced. Hence, the substance is not to be classified for the hazard self-heating substances and mixtures, according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
