Description of key information

The substance is moderately biodegradable but well eliminable from the aquatic environment.

Additional information

Biodegradation was investigated in a GLP-test according to OECD guideline 310 using domestic acitvated sludge (BASF 2001). After a slightly prolonged test duration of 42 days a biodegradation of 50 -60% based on total

mineralization (CO2 production) was measured while the total eliminationa related to DOC removal was estimated to be 90 -100%.

In addition, the available experimental biodegradation data was supported by (Q)SAR calculation; the substance was within the applicability domain of the applied estimation model (BASF SE 2018): The model CATALOGIC 301B (OASIS Catalogic v5.12.1) calculated biodegradation of CAS 75 -85 -4 to be 86.5% after 28 days, based on CO2-Evolution.

Metabolite predition:

The model Catalogic 301 B v02.09 (OASIS Catalogic v5.12.1) calculated 19 metabolites (for details see 'attached background material' of the respective Endpoint Study Record) identifying 3 metabolites as relevant degradation products in terms of PBT/vPvB assessment, with an estimated quantity of≥ 0.1%. All of the 3 metabolites identified as relevant degradation products were calculated to be readily biodegradable.Additionally, experimental data for the three metabolites also indicate ready biodegradability.

Based on this result the substance is considered not to persist in the aquatic environment although pass levels were not met in the experimental study.
