Conclusion on classification

Although tertiary butyl acetate is acutely toxic to algae (72h ErC 16 mg/l), the results for the fish and Daphnia acute toxicity tests ( 96h LC50 240mg/l and 48h EC50 350 mg/l, respectively) suggests that algae is particularly sensitive to tertiary butyl acetate. Considering the results of the algal inhibition test and that tertiary butyl acetate is not readily biodegradability suggest potential for chronic toxicity at this trophic level, however, as a chronic NOEC of >1 mg/l was observed in the algal inhibition test (96h NOEC = 2.3 mg/l), a chronic classification is not warranted, therefore the classification of tertiary butyl acetate is concluded to be:

- not classifiable under Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP GHS) criteria.

- under UN GHS criteria, hazardous to the aquatic environment, acute category 3.
