Description of key information

Sodium caprolactamate hydrolyses immediately in contact with water with the formation of sodium hydroxide and epsilon-Caprolactam. epsilon-Caprolactam is not considered to hydrolyze rapidly when released to water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The half-life of epsilon-Caprolactam in water was calculated to be > 1 a (with HYDROWIN v1.67). Hydrolysis is not expected to be an important environmental fate process due to its slow hydrolysis rate.

The half-life of sodium caprolactamate cannot be determined due to the spontaneous reaction with water.
