Conclusion on classification

The lowest acute effect value is a 48-h EC50 of 1.41 mg/L observed for the effect of SymWhite 377 on the mobility of Daphnia magna. Thus, according to the Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, the substance SymWhite 377 does not need to be classified for acute (short -term) aquatic hazards because the lowest acute effect value is >= 1mg/L.

No chronic aquatic study is available at this point in time. According to the Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, for substances for which adequate chronic toxicity data are not available the classification for long-term effects should be determined based on the acute effects and the biodegradation and accumulation potential of the substance. Thus, SymWhite 377 has to be classified as aquatic chronic 2 (H411: Toxic to the aquatic life with long lasting effects) because the lowest acute effect concentration is between 1 and 10 mg/L and the substance is not readily biodegradable.
