Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxicity of Ebanone to microorganisms is estimated to give a 3-hour EC50 value of 52.5mg/l based on read-across from an appropriate structural analogue.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
52.5 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
10 mg/L

Additional information

An appropriate structural analogue (3-methyl-5-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)pent-4-en-2-ol), tradename Ebanol, has been tested for toxicity to microorganisms. The activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to the OECD Guideline No. 209 was performed. Five concentrations in the range 1 to 100 mg/l were tested. The result can be expressed as follows:

EC50 (3 hours) = 52.5 mg/l.

EC10 (3 hours) = 10.0 mg/l.

The aquatic toxicity of the analogue test substance (Ebanol) is anticipated to be similar to that of Ebanone. They are expected to exhibit the same mode of action, non-polar narcosis, and have similar physical-chemical properties (see read-across justification document in section 13 for more details). Therefore, the EC10 and EC50 values of Ebanone are also considered to be 10.0 mg/L and 52.5 mg/L respectively.
