Description of key information
Butylal flash point was measured in closed-cup according to Pensky Martens closed cup method (ASTM D 93). Flash point of 5 samples was measured as 63.0; 63.0; 62.0; 62.0 and 62.0°C, leading to a mean value of 62.4°C.
Flash point of butylal containing 0.1% of butan-1-ol was recorded at 62.0 and 62.0°C.
Flash point of butylal containing 0.2% of butan-1-ol was recorded at 62.0 and 61.0°C.
Flash point of butylal containing 0.3% of butan-1-ol was recorded at 61.0 and 61.0°C.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
- 62.4 °C
Additional information
According to Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP), Butylal is not a flammable liquid because having a flash point > 60°C in ASTM D93 test.
As the flash-point, determined by a non-equilibrium method, is not found to be 0 ± 2°C, 21 ± 2°C or 55 ± 2°C, the determination has not to be confirmed by an equilibrium method using the same apparatus (as shown in Regulation 440/2008).
