Description of key information
Based on the results obtained from other acetals, it can be stated that butylal and other investigated acetals half-life at pH4, 7 and 9 and 25°C > 1 year.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Half-life for hydrolysis:
- 1 yr
- at the temperature of:
- 25 °C
Additional information
Propylal (CAS 505-84-0), 2-ethylhexylal (CAS 22174-70-5), 1,3-dioxolane (CAS 646-06-0) and 2,5,7,10-tetraoxaundecane (CAS 4431-83-8) were identified as stable at pH 4, 7 and 9 at 50°C after 5 days according to OECD 111 (GLP).
Methylal (CAS 109-87-5) was identified as:
- Stable at pH 2.5 to 9.0 at 37°C for 24h and at pH 4.02 to 8.98 at 25°C for 1 year.
- Stable at pH 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 for 7 months (formaldehyde conc. ≤1.1 ppm). Unstable at pH 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 with evolution of formaldehyde conc from 2.90 to 3142 ppm at pH 3.5, from 0.84 to 423ppm at pH 4.0 and from 0.28to 23 ppm at pH 4.5 after 7 months. Based on formaldehyde detection
- Stable at pH 2, 4 and 11 at RT. At pH2: stable at 40°C, slight hydrolysis at 60°C and more rapid hydrolysis at 80°C. At pH 4: no hydrolysis at 40°C and only slight hydrolysis at 40°C. At pH 10:no hydrolysis at 40, 60 and 80°C. Based on ethanol detection
Based on these results obtained from other acetals, it can be stated that butylal and other investigated acetals half-life at pH4, 7 and 9 and 25°C > 1 year.
