Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

Appearance/physical state/colour:

Acetoguanamine is stated to be a colourless and odourless organic solid.

Melting point/freezing point:

The melting point of Acetoguanamine is denoted in a range from 273 -276 °C. This information was taken from a peer-reviewed handbook (Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry) and two collections of data ("Acetoguanamin-Stoffsicherheit" and "Guanamine-Produktstudie").

Boiling point:

In accordance with column 2of REACH Annex VII, the study does not need to be conducted, as the substance Acetoguanamine decomposes before the boiling point is reached. Thermical decomposition starts at 330 °C.

Relative density:

There are three values available for the density of Acetoguanamine. All three values are in the same range. Because of this the weight of evidence approach seems to be reliable and the mean value (1.47 g/cm3) was chosen as key value for CSA.

Particle size distribution:

The median value of particle size of Acetoguanamine is 60.31 µm.

Vapour pressure:

The vapour pressure of Acetoguanamine was determined to be < 1.2 Pa at 25 °C.

Partition coefficient:

The partition coefficient (n-octanol/water) of Acetoguanamine was determined to be 0.14 (log Pow = -0.88) at 20 ± 0.05 °C.

Water solubility:

The water solubility of Acetoguanamine is 11.2 g/L at 20 °C and the substance could be classified as very soluble.

Solubility in organic solvent:

no data

Surface tension:

In accordance with REACH annex VII, column 2, the study needs only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the material. Surface activity is not a desired property of Acetoguanamine.

Flash point:

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the study does not need to be conducted as Acetoguanamine is solid.

The flash point is a key measure of the flammability of a liquid. It measures the lowest temperature at which the vapour/air mixture above the liquid can be ignited.

Auto flammability:

Two tests for dusty Acetoguanamine are available evaluating the auto flammability on hot surface for deposited and dispersed Acetoguanamine. Both tests exhibited no reactions on hot surfaces.

Flammability:

Acetoguanamine could not be ignited in a test similar to guideline A.10. Therefore Acetoguanamine is considered to be non flammable.

Explosiveness:

In accordance with the specific rules for adaptation laid down in Annex VII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 testing on explosiveness may be omitted if, inter alia, there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. The structure of Acetoguanamine shows no chemical groups associated with explosive properties. Based on this findings and experience in daily use and handling further testing has not been conducted.

Oxidising properties:

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance Acetoguanamine is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure (organic substances not containing oxygen or halogen atoms).

Oxidation reduction potential:

no data

Stability in organic solvents:

According to ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, chapter R.7a: endpoint specific guidance, a study for the stability of a test substance in organic solvents and determination of degradation products is only required if the stability in organic solvents is considered critical. From all data available and from experience with practical use, there is no evidence for Acetoguanamine being not stable in the media used. Therefore, the stability in organic solvents is not considered critical and testing is not required.

Dissociation constant:

The pka value of Acetoguanamine was calculated to be 4.4 +/- 0.4 by the help of the QSAR program ACD/Labs. This is supported by a value for the dissociation constant stated in a publication and a collection of data which is in the same range. Therefore the result of the QSAR calculation can be considered as reliable.

Viscosity:

According to the REACH Regulation (Annex XI, 1.), a study does not need to be conducted if the available data are sufficient for assessment. The substance is a solid at ambient temperature. According to the TGDs (R7a, 7.1.18.4), viscosity is relevant only to liquids.
