Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The partition coefficients for members of the category Rosin adducts and rosin adduct salts range from 0.4 to 5.89
The partition coefficient of Rosin, maleated is 2.2 – 5.89 in unbuffered media and 1.5 - >6 at pH 2
The partition coefficient of Rosin, fumarated is 2.8 at pH 3.93 – 4.47. A supporting study determined a log Kow of 2.7 – 3.6 at pH 7.5 and 4.4 – 7 at pH 2, both measured at 35°C
The partition coefficient of Rosin, fumarated, reaction products with formaldehyde is 3.3 at pH 3.99 – 4.37
The partition coefficient of Fatty acids, tall oil, oligomeric reaction products with maleic anhydride and rosin, calcium magnesium zinc salts is 0.4 at pH 5.43

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

GLP-compliant, guideline studies (Chilworth Technology 2010) are available for Rosin, fumerated, Rosin, fumarated, reaction products with formaldehyde and Fatty acids, tall oil, oligomeric reaction products with maleic anhydride and rosin, calcium magnesium zinc salts. A GLP-compliant, guideline study (Inveresk 2000) is available for Rosin, maleated. An additional GLP-compliant, guideline study (Water Quality Institute 1992) is available for Rosin, fumarated. The range of results from all reliable, guideline studies is provided.

In addition, calculated values are provided for each of the substances (Marlin Consultancy 2010). Where test data are available this should be used instead of calculated data, therefore the tested values are considered as key for this category.

The wide range of partition coefficient values for substances in this category is due to the chemical structures of the substances, as they are composed of ionisable organic acids. The substances in this category are UVCB mixtures and therefore can exhibit more than one peak and log Kow value.
