Description of key information

Bioaccumulation of the EDTA metal complexes in biota is not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Bioaccumulation is not a standard information requirement in Annex VIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Furthermore bioaccumulation of the ‘EDTA metal complexes with cobalt, copper, iron, manganese and zinc’ is unlikely, due to the ionic structure.

This confirms an bioaccumulation study with the analog substance EDTA tetra sodium salt (CAS 64-02-8) [Bishop & Maki 1980]. In this test individuals of the sunfish Lepomis macrochirus were exposed to the test item for a period of 28 days. The test resulted in very low BCF values of 1 to 2.
