Description of key information

A carcinogenicity study with structural analogue sodium benzoate (532-32-1) using rats in diet (Sodemoto, 1979) resulted a NOAEL value of >1000 mg/kg bw/day (2% in food).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Carcinogenicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed
Dose descriptor:
NOAEL
1 000 mg/kg bw/day
Study duration:
chronic
Species:
rat
Quality of whole database:
2 (reliable with restrictions)

Justification for classification or non-classification

NOAEL >1000 mg/kg bw/day (2% in food)

Therefore in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Tables 3.6.1 the substance is not classified for the carcinogens.

Additional information
