The flash point of the reference substance Naphthalene was determined to be 82 °C which is in the range of acceptance (80 °C ± 2 °C). In case of the test item three parallel tests were carried out. No flash point of PURASAL S was observed up to 200 °C.

Executive summary:

In a GLP study conducted according to EU Method A.9 and ASTM D 6450 the closed cup – electric arc method was used to determine the flash point of Sodium (S)-lactate. No flash point was observed up to 200 °C.

Description of key information

In accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI, this study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant for liquids and low melting point solids. Supportive information was derived from a GLP study conducted according to EU Method A.9 and ASTM D 6450 with the enantiomer of the target substance, Sodium (S)-lactate. In this study, the closed cup – electric arc method was used to determine the flash point of an aqueous solution of Sodium (S)-lactate. No flash point was observed up to 200 °C.
