Description of key information

The algal growth inhibition test revealed an EbC50 of 10.1 mg/L and a NOEC of 3.7 mg/L after 72 h.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
10.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3.7 mg/L

Additional information

Growth inhibition of green algae by the test substance has been tested in static, freshwater test with Scenedesmus subspicatus according to guideline 87/302/EEC Algal Inhibition Test in compliance with GLP. The effect concentration of the test substance has been observed to be 10.1 mg/L after 72 h based on the biomass. The test concentration has been verified analytically at the test end. The NOEC for the test substance based on biomass is 3.7 mg/L after 72 h of exposure.

Furthermore, a supporting study for alga assimilation inhibition is available. This test has been performed in accordance to guideline DIN 38412 part 1, but not in compliance to GLP guidelines and no details on test conditions are available. The study revealed an effect level of 6.6 mg/L after 24 h of exposure based on the inhibition of the assimilation rate.

The EbC50 (72 h) of 10.1 mg/L is used for the chemical safety assessment.
