Description of key information

Regarding flammability (contact with water) and pyrophoric properties, a statement based on the molecular structure rather than a full study was considered sufficient to cover these endpoints. The substance is non (highly) flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Flammability in contact with water

None of the members of the category is expected to ignitespontaneouslywhen coming into contact with water or damp air, or to evolve flammable gas at a rate > 1 l/kg of the test substance per hour.

The structural features of the substances were evaluated and it was concluded that none of the components contains groups that might lead to the evolution of a dangerous amount of flammable gas when coming into contact with water or damp air. No metals, transition metals, boron or silicon are present.

In conclusion, substance EC 230-743-8 is not highly flammable in contact with water or damp air.

Pyrophoric properties

The structural features of the components of the substances were evaluated and it was concluded that none of the componentscontain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air. Furthermore, experience from using these substances as lubricants shows that the test substance does not ignite spontaneously after coming in contact with air at room temperature.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the above mentioned result, classification according to the CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and the Dangerous Substance Directive 67/548/EC is not necessary.
