Reference Items:
Six chemicals (acetanilide, methyl benzoate, isoproturon, linuron, naphthalene, fenthion) for which log Koc has been reported were used to calibrate the elution time in units of log Koc. - Analytical monitoring:
- yes
- Details on sampling:
- Test solutions:
The reference items were dissolved in methanol. The concentrations of the stock solutions were about 1 mg/mL.
These stock solutions were diluted with eluent resulting in concentrations of the test solutions of approximately 10 μg/mL. The sodium nitrate stock solutions was diluted with eluent resulting in concentration of the test solution of approximately 100 μg/mL.
The test item was dissolved in methanol. The concentration of this solution was about 1 mg/mL. It was diluted with eluent to 100 μg/mL. - Details on test conditions:
- Performance of the test
Three series of the above-mentioned reference solutions were measured with two parallel injections, each. Three series of the test item solution were measured with two parallel injections, each. The retention times were determined. The three calibration series and three test item series were measured alternately.
For the determination of t0 (t0 = retention time of the unretarded component) three series of sodium nitrate solution were injected twice. - Type:

- yes
- Conclusions:
- Using the HPLC method the log Koc of tert-butyl peroxypivalate was determined to be 1.59.
- Executive summary:
A study was conducted according to OECD test guideline 121 and Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method C.19. The purpose of this study was to estimate the adsorption coefficient, Koc of the test item using HPLC method. This method is applicable for substances, which have log Koc value ranging from 1.5 to 5.0. The log Koc was estimated to be 1.59 and the Koc 39.
Reference
Quality criteria were met, as values of log Koc derived from individual measurements fell within a range of 0.25 log units.
The correlation coefficient R for the relationship between log k and log Koc of the test item is 0.990.
The difference of the estimated adsorption coefficient to the value of reference item fell within a range of ± 0.5 log units.
Description of key information
Using the HPLC method the log Koc of tert-butyl peroxypivalate was determined to be 1.59.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Koc at 20 °C:
- 39
