Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Isodecyl methacrylate has a low water solubility (0.199 mg/l) and a low vapor pressure (1.33 Pa at 20°C). Substance released to air will be rapidly degradaded by photochemical processes (t1/2 = 12.4h). Substance released to the aquatic environment are limited based on the low water solubility and will be degraded quickly in STPs and the environment as the substance is found to be readily biodegradable (failing the 10-days window). Thus, the substance is not persistent in the environment.

Isodecyl methacrylate has a logKow > 4, indicating a potential for bioaccumulation. For alkyl methacrylates a fast metabolisation is known. An experimental study has been carried out on the structural analogue 2-ethyl hexyl methacrylate (log Kow > 4) to assess the fish bioconcentration of the substance, according to OECD guideline 305 (Fraunhofer, 2006). This study demonstrates that a rapid metabolisation occurs, preventing any significant bioaccumulation (BCF = 37). Thus, isodecyl methacrylate has no potential to bioaccumulate.
