The weight of evidence approach made for toxicity to aquatic invertebrates allows to say that in water, the toxicity of MMAN will essentially be caused by methylammonium, and that nitrate ions are non toxic.

Results show that for Daphnia magna EC50 48 hr = 231 mg/l, and for Pseudokirchnella subcapitata EC50 72 hr = 14.7 mg/l. According to the classification criteria of Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, it is possible to say that MMAN has not to be classified in Acute Category 1. Moreover, methylammonium is readily biodegradable, meaning that MMAN has not to be classified in Chronic categories either, even if the EC50 value for aquatic plants and algae satisfies the criteria for Chronic Category 3.
