Description of key information

In accordance with Column 2 of Section 9.4. toxicity testing on soil microorganisms does not need to be conducted as the equilibrium partitioning method may be applied to assess the hazard to soil organisms. However, since thechemical safety assessment has not indicated a need to investigate this hazard further, then no calculations have been undertaken. The substance has been shown to have a high potential to adsorb to soil. However, the concentration of manganese in soil from these uses is expected to bemuch less than the background concentration of manganese in European soils (428.6 mg Mn/kg according to “Probabilistic Distribution of Manganese in European Surface Water, Sediment and Soil and Derivation of Predicted Environmental Concentrations (PEC)”, Parametrix, 2009 and supported by GEMAS data). Additional testing is therefore considered unnecessary.
