Description of key information

Due to the complex composition of the substance it is not possible to determine the Partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of Corn Steep Liquor, CAS No 66071-94-I, EC No 266-113-4, as such experimentally. Shake Flask Method (EU A.8, OECD TG 107), HPLC Method (EU A.8, OECD TG 117) and Slow-Stirring Method (OECD TG 123) are non-applicable for the substance. QSAR calculations for each component individually are also only partially applicable due to the unknown structure of one of the major constituents (Protein hydrolyzates, corn).
When combining the available information on substance composition, with Lactic Acid log Kow and with the description of the manufacturing process (extraction in water), a clear indication of the high affinity of the substance for water can be deducted, and consequently a low log Kow value can be expected for the UVCB substance Corn Steep Liquor even though it cannot be either measured with current methods or predicted via QSAR.
