Additional information

Data on physical properties were obtained from a number of secondary sources. The data in these secondary sources are based on a critical evaluation of peer-reviewed data and the selected values are considered to be reliable and representative of the property under investigation. The use of Klimisch codes (Klimisch et al., 1997), was extended to these secondary sources and a reliability code of (2) valid with restrictions was assigned.

Review of the collected information indicates that methyl acetate is a colourless organic liquid with a fruity odour. Its boiling point at 57 °C indicates that it is a highly flammable liquid.

The studies on physical and chemical properties support classification and labelling of methyl acetate according to DSD and EU-GHS.

In case where several analytical results are available for the same end point, the value for the endpoint summary was selected as follows:

Partition coefficient: Experimental results are in a similar range. The experimental value in the study by Hansch et al. (1995) is given as it is the latest study.

Water solubility: The experimental value in the study by Stephan and Stephan (1963) is given as it is supported by experience. Other experimental data similar.

Viscosity: Experimental results are in a similar range. The experimental value in the study by CRC (2006) is given as it is the latest study.
