Description of key information

The test substance has no oxidizing properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

In a GLP compliant study, performed according to EU method A.17, the oxidizing properties of the test substance were determined (RCC 2005). A flame of a gas burner was used as an ignition source. In the preliminary test the test substance/cellulose mixture ignited poorly and the flame became orange. Without contact to the ignition source, the flame became weak and colorless and extinguished after 19 seconds. The barium nitrate/cellulose mixture during the same test burned for 77 seconds with a blazing, light yellowish flame, emitting sparks. Since the test mixture burned clearly slower than the barium nitrate mixture, a main test was not performed. In conclusion, the test substance has no oxidizing properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

As the test substance has no oxidising properties, classification is not needed according to the Directive 67/584/EEC and according to the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
