Description of key information

The viscosity of the xylene isomers ranges from 0.58 to 0.76 mPa.s at 25˚C. The viscosity of m-xylene is 0.58 mPa.s (0.67 mm2/s), for o-xylene it is 0.76 mPa.s (0.87 mm2/s) and for p-xylene it is 0.60 mPa.s (0.70 mm2/s).

The mean value is 0.75 mm2/s.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Viscosity:
0.75 mm²/s (static)

20 °C

Additional information

The CRC Handbook (Lide, 2008) is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. Kinematic viscosity was calculated by dividing the dynamic viscosity by the density of each individual isomer.
