Description of key information

Based on available related data toxicity to terrestrial arthropods is not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The standard information requirements set in Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Column 2, 9.4, state that short-term toxicity tests on invertebrates should be available. Since earthworm toxicity data are available, showing no toxicity, testing on terrestrial arthropods is not deemed necessary.

Earthworm toxicity data from the category member methyl laurate (CAS No. 111-82-0) in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5) are available. In this test performed according to OECD 222, no effects on survival, reproduction or growth of Eisenia fetida were reported, leading to a NOEC = 1000 mg/kg dw (Winkelmann (2013)).

Based on the available information, the chemical safety assessment according to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex I, does not indicate the need to conduct further tests on terrestrial arthropods.
