Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test substance is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria in the Closed Bottle test (OECD 301 D; Waggy et al., 1994).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

The ready biodegradability of n-butyl acetate was tested in the Closed Bottle test according to OECD TG 301 D (Waggy et al., 1994). Non-adapted settled sewage-treated effluent or commercial Polyseed served as the inoculum. The assays were incubated over 28 d at 20 °C. The biodegradation was 80% after 5 d and 83 % after 28 d. The 10-d window was met. Therefore n-butyl acetate is readily biodegradable.
