Description of key information

Tetrahymena pyriformis: 40-h IGC50 = 356 mg/L (TETRATOX; Schultz, 2006)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
356 mg/L

Additional information

The growth inhibiting effect of n-butyl acetate on the ciliate Tetrahymena pyriformis was determined: IGC50 (40 h) = 356 mg/L (Schultz, 2006). Data from a ready biodegradability test indicate no harmful effect at the tested concentration of 10 mg/L (NOEC ≥ 10 mg/L) on predominantly domestic sludge (Waggy et al., 1994). Disturbances in sewage treatment plants are not to be expected when n-butyl acetate is released in appropriate amounts.
