Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Phototransformation in air is not relevant due to low vapour pressure (< 0.0001 Pa).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental studies investigating the phototransformation in air of (Z)-octadec-9-enyl (Z)-docos-13-enoate (CAS 17673-56-2) are available. Results from AOPWIN v1.92 indicate that the substance is susceptible to indirect photodegradation in air (Müller, 2011). The estimated half-life for the reaction with OH-radicals is 2.44 h for the cis isomer and 2.23 h for the trans isomer (24 h day; OH-concentration: 0.5E+06 OH/cm³). However, this is not expected to be a relevant environmental fate process, since (Z)-octadec-9-enyl (Z)-docos-13-enoate is not expected to enter the atmospheric compartment based on the low estimated vapour pressure under ambient conditions (< 0.0001 Pa at 20 °C).

As this study is not a standard information requirement in REACh and there is no indication from the Chemical Safety Assessment (CSA) on the need to investigate further the fate and behaviour of the substance (Annex X requirement), no further testing is considered necessary for (Z)-octadec-9-enyl (Z)-docos-13-enoate.
