Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Desmodesmus subspicatus and Brachydanio rerio were found to be the most sensitive species revealing very similar EC50 values (207 and 210 mg/L). For algae the chronic NOEC/EC0 for the more sensitive endpoint (biomasse) was determine to be 35 mg/L. Silica is found in European rivers in mean concentrations of 7.5 mg SiO2/L (Jorgensen et al. 1991). Therefore, the NOEC for fish in chronic toxicity tests is expected to be comparable to the NOEC for Desmodesmus. Further testing is not appropriate and should be avoided due to animal welfare.
