Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No biodegradation expected for Chlor(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane (CAS No. 1719 -57 -9).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data is available for Chlor(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane (CAS No. 1719 -57 -9). Chlor(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane

hydrolysis results in (chloromethyl)dimethylsilandiol and hydrochloric acid which is inorganic and will not be discussed. (chloromethyl)methoxydimethylsilane (CAS No. 18143-33-4) hydrolyses to the same silanol hydrolysis product (chloromethyl)methylsilanediol. The other hydrolysis products being methanol which is readily biodegradable. It is therefore considered valid to read-across the results for (chloromethyl)methoxydimethylsilane (CAS No. 18143-33-4) to fill the data gap for the registered substance and ignoring for the conclusion the contribution of methanol to the biodegradation. In the study 9 -10% biodegradation was observed in 28 days. The study was conducted according to OECD guideline 301F and is considered reliable (IBACON, 2002). This is selected as the key study. The study is considered to be reliability 1 (reliable without restrictions). Taking into account the contribution of methanol to the biodegradation no biodegradation can be expected for

Chlor(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane (CAS No. 1719 -57 -9).

This is further supported by the following overview on the wider group of chloralkylsilanes.
