Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the 72-hour acute toxicity study with Scenedesmus subspicatus an EC50 based on biomass of above 100 mg/L was determined as well as a NOEC of 33 mg/L. (BASF, 1992)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
33 mg/L

Additional information

In a 72-h acute toxicity study, freshwater green algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) were exposed to the test substance at nominal concentrations of 0 (blank and vehicle control), 1.23, 3.7, 11, 33 and 100 mg/L under static conditions according to EU method C.3 (BASF, 1992). A stock solution was prepared by mixing 2 g test substance and 2 g Tween 80 with a marble mill for 72 hours. 0.19 mL of this blend were mixed and made up to 1000 mL of water. Respective amounts of the stock solution were given into the test water to produce desired test concentrations. Each test concentration was tested in 3 replicates, the blank control in 6 replicates. The 72-h NOEC and EC50 based on biomass were 33 mg/L and above 100 mg/L, respectively. The % growth inhibition in the treated culture as compared to the control ranged from 0 to 42.9 % at the highest tested concentration. There were no compound related phytotoxic effects during the entire study period.
