Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The predicted boiling point of the read across substance quinine is 450.64°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
450 °C

Additional information

The predicted boiling point of 450.64 °C of the read across substance quinine is based on the adapted Stein and Brown method, by Epi Suite v4.11. We conclude that totaquina, which consists of 75% quinine, has also a boiling point of 450 °C. Since the boiling point has not been measured, it is not possible to evaluate the estimation by calculation. Furthermore, in the study published by Dobbie, 1879 the read across substance quinine was heated in a capillary tube in a paraffin bath and decomposed at 256 -257 °C. Thus, it is possible that quinine decomposed before reaching the boiling point. This is an indication, that there are no experimental studies on the boiling point available.
