Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on the QSAR prediction done using the EPI Suite ECOSAR version 1.10, the 96 hours LC50 was estimated to be 7859.329 mg/L on fish for substance Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides with mortality effects. Thus based on this value it can be concluded that the substance can be classified as non-toxic as per the criteria of CLP regulation.

Additional information

By applying weight of evidence approach the studies of chemical Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides (Cas no. 83968-28-9) are summarized as follows:

From QSAR prediction done using the EPI Suite ECOSAR version 1.10 for target chemical substance Formaldehyde, reaction products with N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides the 96 hours LC50 was estimated to be 7859.329 mg/L on fish with mortality effects. Thus based on this value it can be concluded that the substance can be classified as non-toxic as per the criteria of CLP regulation.

Other study from authorative ecotoxicological database i.e ECOTOX which is indicate that C.I. Basic Violet 1(Cas no.8004-87-3) is expose to test organism Cyprinus carpio (Common Carp) with length 4.5(3.7-5.3) CM, 2.14(1.05-3.1) G for 48 hrs.in fresh water and static condition. During study lethal concentration to 50% of test organisms (LC50) observed at 416 mg/l.Thus LC50 for the test substance C.I Basic Violet 1 (Cas no. 8004 -87 -3) i.e 420 mg/l indicate that the test substance is non toxic to fish in 48 hrs. Exposure.

Read across study from Superior, WI:Center Lake Superior Environmental Studies Univ.Wisconsin Superior, 1984 Acute Toxicities of Organic Chemicals to Fathead Minnows (Pimephales Promelas) experimental study indicate the lethal concentration (LC50) value of N,N-dimethylaniline in fish [Pimephales promelas] in a 96 hr study was 78.2 mg/L(confidence limit 74.2 - 82.4 mg/L) in fresh water and flow-through condition.

But the test substance is readily biodegradable in water and also bioaccumulation potential not ≥ 500 (i.e reported 3.2 L/kg) all these condition support to that the test substance is non toxic to aquatic environment.

Based on the above discussions from various sources concluded that in short term exposure to fish test chemical N,N-dimethylbenzenamine and N-methylbenzenamine, oxidized, hydrochlorides (Cas no. 83968-28-9) is non toxic to fish.
