Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In accordance with column 1 of Annex VIII of the REACH regulation, assessment of the toxicokinetic behaviour of the substance needs to be provided to the extent that can be derived from the relevant available information. There is no available information on the toxicokinetic behaviour of the substance Dialuminium tris[2-(2,4,5,7-tetrabromo-6-oxido-3-oxoxanthen-9-yl)benzoate] (Common Name: D&C Red 21 Lake, C.I. No 45380:3). The chemical is used as a coloring ingredient in cosmetics and personal care products and thus, oral absorption of this chemical is highly unlikely. However, there is a possibility of dermal absorption from the skin surfaces where the chemical is applied.
Experimentally it has been found that this chemical has very low solubility in water. Thus, the chemical is likely to have high Log Pow (Octanol-water partition coefficient value) > 5. According to the Lipinski rule of 5, a drug/chemical having Log Pow > 5 shall not be bio-available within the living system and thus even if absorbed dermally, shall not be metabolized and therefore shall be excreted out of the living system mostly unchanged either through the urine or feaces. In such a scenario, the bio-accumulation potential is expected to be low.
