Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

Prediction model based estimation was done to estimate the short term aquatic invertebrates toxicity of the test compound Acid violet 43 (CAS no 4430 -18 -6). The summary is as below:

The median Effective concentration (EC50) value for sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate on Daphnia magna in a 48 hour study was estimated to be 143 mg/L on the basis of intoxication effects.

Danish QSAR estimation database (2016) estimated the median effective concentration (EC50) for the test compound sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate in a 48h study using daphnids to be 22.71 mg/L.

Thus the chemical is not expected to exhibit aquatic toxicity as per the CLP criteria.

Toxicity to algae and cyanobacteria:

Experimental data and prediction model based estimation was used to evaluate the algal toxicity of the test compound Acid violet 43. the summary is as below:

The effect of test item sodium 4-[(9,10-dihydro-4-hydroxy-9,10-dioxo-1-anthryl)amino]toluene-3-sulphonate, CAS No. 4430-18-6 was studied on the growth of fresh water green algaChlorella vulgaris. The study was conducted following OECD guideline 201- Alga, growth inhibition test. The test concentration chosen for the study were 6.25mg/l, 12.5mg/l, 25mg/l, 50mg/l, 100mg/l and 200mg/l. The test concentrations were prepared using stock solution of the test item using mineral media. The green alga was exposed to the test concentration for a period of 72 hours to observe average specific growth rate and % growth inhibition under the effect of the test item. EC50 calculated graphically through probit analysis was observed to be 79.788mg/L.

The median effective concentration (EC50) for the test compound sodium 4 -[(9,10 -dihydro-4 -hydroxy-9,10 -dioxo-1 -anthryl)amino]toluene-3 -sulphonate as predicted by Danish QSAR estimation database in a 96h study using green algae is found to be 25.528 mg/L.

Experimental data suggests that the test chemical does not classify for toxicity to algae and cyanobacteria.

As per the CLP criteria, the test chemical (CAS no 4430 -18 -6) does not classify for aquatic toxicity.
