Description of key information
Yellow LF 6881 is a orange powder at 20 °C and 1013 hPa; it decomposes before melting/boiling, vapour pressure can be considered as negligible.
The test item is very water soluble (i.e. 13.24 ± 3.96 g/l). The partition coefficient Pow was determined to be 0.0049 ± 0.0008.
The substance is not auto-flammable/flammable/explosive/oxidising agent.

APPEARANCE AND STATE
Yellow LF 6881 is a orange powder at 20 °C and 1013 hPa, with specific odour. It is characterized by a particle size whiting 45 - 1000 µm (only 0.9 % of particles have a diameter lower than 45 µm).
The melting point of the test item was investigated according to OECD Test Guideline 102, by DSC analysis and capillary test methods.
During the DSC analysis, the test item showed endothermic signals in the temperature range of approx. 100 - 160 °C that can be associated with the water evaporation of the test item; at a temperature between 217 and 308 °C two overlapping exothermic peaks could be observed, which was assumed to the decomposition of the test item.
Before the test the appearance of test item was orange powder. After the experiments the test item was cohered and blackened in the crucible.
The test by capillary method confirmed that the substance undergoes decomposition, at approx. 272 °C, before melt/boil.
Due to the thermal behaviour, the vapour pressure can be considered as negligible.
Relative density was determined by means of a pycnometer and resulted to be 1.357 at 20 °C.
SOLUBILITY and PARTITION COEFFICIENT
Solubility was performed following the recommendations of the OECD method 105, by flask method. The concentration in the clear solvent phase was determined by a validated HPLC method. The water solubility of test item was determined to be 13.24 ± 3.96 g/l (95 % confidence interval) at 20 ± 0.5 °C and pH 5.69 -5.80.
The partition coefficient octanol-water determination was performed using the shake flask method; the phases were separated and analysed by a validated HPLC method. The partition coefficient Pow was determined to be 0.0049 ± 0.0008 (i.e. log Pow of -2.31 ± 0.070) at 20 °C and pH 6.96 - 7.37. Although the values recorded are outside of the applicability domain for the test method, the results can be considered reliable and representative for the tested substance: the study outcomes are indicative of a high affinity with the water phase, respect than the octanol one.
PHYSICAL HAZARDS
No self-ignition temperature was recorded during the auto-ignition screening test. The flammability test performed showed that Yellow LF 6881 did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes, therefore the substance does not meet the criteria to be considered as flammable.
Based on the chemical structure and the known experience in the handling and use of substances, it can be deemed to be not potentially oxidising agent.
