Description of key information

The tests on aquatic toxicity (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae) were performed as limit tests with an effective loading of 100 mg/L, except for the test on the microbial respiration rate. Here, 1000 mg/L were applied. The limit tests were conducted because the previous range finding studies did not reveal any adverse effects. This procedure is in accordance with the OECD and international test protocols. As no deviations from the protocols are reported the results of the studies are regarded as valid.

In the ecotoxicological tests no adverse or promoting effects of the examined fibres were observed. Taking into account the physico-chemical and toxicological properties (negative test results) the substance non-graphitic carbon fibre is not expected to have any ecotoxicological hazard potential. Further testing therefore appears scientifically not justified.
