Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
bulk density
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
23 January 2014
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 109 (Density of Liquids and Solids)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
The modification being a 25 ml graduated cylinder was used instead of a pycnometer.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.3 (Relative Density)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Short description of test conditions: The analysis was performed accrding to to methods given above. The deviation is the use of a 25 ml graduated cylinder instead of a pycnometer. The sample was added to the 25 ml mark of the graduated cylinder and was vibrated to pack the sample in the graduate. Material was added until a steady volume of 25 ml was read. The sample was then weighted. As the sample varied in particle size, three well mixed aliquots were taken.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
air comparison pycnometer (for solids)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material:

Commercial Name: Sourscav
Lot number: 20131012
Manufacturer: Polytec International Ltd.
Key result
Type:
bulk density
Density:
ca. 0.79 g/cm³
Temp.:
21 °C

The average density is 0.79 g/cm3 at 21°C. Analysis was performed in triplicates (see table).

  Density Results
Sample Trial Measured Bulk density (g/cm3 Sample Temperature (°C)
 1  0.80 21
 2  0.79 21
 3  0.79  21
Conclusions:
The average density value of 0.79 g/cm3 at 21°C was determined in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate standard test methods.

Description of key information

EU Method A.3 (relative density)/OECD Guideline 109 (Density of liquids and solids)
The average density is 0.79 g/cm3 at 21°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
0.79

Additional information

The average density value 0.79 g/cm3 at 21°C (Baldwin 2014, Bulk Density determination of Iron Gluconate) was determined in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate standard test method (EU A3 Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Annex, Official Journal of the European Union L142/1) using the air comparison pycnometer method per OECD 109 (27 -07 -1995).
