US EPA AOPWIN software (v1.92) estimated an Overall Hydroxyl Radical Reaction Rate Constant of 21.8402 E-12 cm3/molecule-sec at 25 degrees C, and an atmospheric degradation half-life of 5.877 hours, for ethoxypropanol.

In a guideline and GLP assessment of ready biodegradability by sewage treatment micro-organisms, ethoxypropanol attained 68% degradation after 28 days as measured by oxygen consumed. The biodegradation curve showed that degradation exceeded 60% within 10 days of the degradation attaining 10%; therefore satisfying the 10-day window validation criterion cited in the OECD guidelines. Accordingly, ethoxypropanol is considered to be readily biodegradable under the conditions of this test.

In a guideline and GLP assessment of ready biodegradability by activated sewage sludge micro-organisms, ethoxypropanol attained 78% degradation after 28 days as indicated by daily oxygen consumption. Degradation of the test material exceeded 10% on day 6 of the study and attained 60% on day 15; therefore satisfying the 10-day window validation criterion cited in the OECD guidelines. Accordingly, ethoxypropanol is considered to be readily biodegradable under the conditions of this test.
