Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
19 December 2017
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Justification for type of information:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. Test substance is adequately characterised. Therefore full validation applies.
according to guideline
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Version / remarks:
according to guideline
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Version / remarks:
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Not applicable
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Inspected on 13 and 14 October 2014/Signed on 8 April 2015
Type of method:
capillary method
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
>= 64.6 - <= 72.8 °C
Remarks on result:
other: pressure not specified

The test item was filled into a glass capillary tube at room temperature and was set in an aluminium block at 17.7 °C, the block was heated with a magnetic stirrer with heating function. The test item started to melt at 62.0 °C and was completely melted at 73.2 °C. The test item melted to a clear amber coloured, viscose molten mass. After cooling down it solidified as a clear mass.

Main test:

The following values were recorded:

Melting point/range

First Determination

64.5 °C (337.7 K)

72.8 °C (346.0 K)

Second Determination

64.7 °C (337.9 K)

72.8 °C (346.0 K)

The means between both determinations give the following values:

Melting range:                                             64.6 to 72.8 °C (337.8 to 346.0 K)

Standard deviation:                                   0.14 °C (begin); 0.00 (end)

Estimated accuracy:                                   ± 0.2 °C

The melting range was determined as 64.6 °C – 72.8 °C (337.8 to 346.0 K). These values are the means of two independent determinations.
Executive summary:

The study was performed in order to determine the melting point of test item according OECD 102, resp. EU A.1 guideline, using the capillary method.

The melting range was determined as 64.6 °C – 72.8 °C (337.8 to 346.0 K). These values are the means of two independent determinations.

Description of key information

The melting range was stated as 64.6°C-72.8°C (337.8 to 346 K).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to OECD 102/ EU A1 guideline is available.

It is considered as a key study, and the result is retained as key data.
