Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

Classification relevant information

Acute toxicity:

-         Fish: LC50 (96 h) > 137 mg test item/L (nominal, D. rerio, OECD 203), corresponding to 100 mg Bi/L; RA from bismuth hydroxide nitrate oxide (CAS 1304-85-4)

-         Aquatic Invertebrates: EC50 (48 h) > 137 mg test item/L (nominal, D. magna, OECD 202), corresponding to 100 mg Bi/L; RA from bismuth hydroxide nitrate oxide (CAS 1304-85-4)

-         Algae: ErC50 (72 h) > 137 mg/L (nominal, P. subcapitata, OECD 201), corresponding to 100 mg Bi/L; RA from bismuth hydroxide nitrate oxide (CAS 1304-85-4)

Chronic toxicity:

-         Fish: not available

-         Aquatic invertebrates: not available

-         Algae: NOErC (72 h) ≥ 137 mg/L (nominal, P. subcapitata, OECD 201); RA from bismuth hydroxide nitrate oxide (CAS 1304-85-4)

Conclusion on classification

Based on read across data, all acute aquatic toxicity L(E)C50 values were > 100 mg/L (nominal) for fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae. Read across data on chronic aquatic toxicity are available only for algae and no effects were observed resulting in a NOErC ≥ 100 mg/L (nominal). Thus the substance is not classified and labelled according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (dated: 01.01.2017) and further amendments (ATPs).
